Projects

1. Investigation into students’ perception in artificial intelligence and related modules
I would like a final year project student to investigate what university students at all levels understand from the term “artificial/computational   intelligence” and “intelligent systems” and if they would consider studying a degree and/or a module in the area. In addition, we would like to find out what makes them more attractive to the subject area, modules and degree programme. We should also consider investigating why the final year students selected/did not select related optional modules (e.g., Fuzzy Logic). This will be research project that requires an extensive research in the subject area as well as research methods and fact finding techniques.

2.   Computational Bioinformatics: Genetic is now a part of our life. This requires assessment of very large genetic data and expertise of establishing reliable computer-based systems. This is simply called "bioinformatics". This is why large amount of job adverts are in place. If you are interested in becoming one of the experts and working in this industry in the future, you may be interested in my projects. I am looking for one or two final year students who will be carrying out research on computer applications in large genomic data analysis. A software may be provided for you. The only thing you need to do is to work very hard.
3.   Web-Robot as a Bioinformatics Tool: Vast amount of genomic information is available online but widely scattered and therefore waiting for being collection, analysis, and interpretation. However, this collection is being done manually. Student will be creating a web-robot to collect gene/protein information from a number of different bioinformatics web sites. This project requires knowledge of database and web design. Necessary support will be given for gene related information.
4.   A web-based patient referral system for GPs with an aid of Fuzzy Systems: In the project, you will combine two systems that have already been established. The systems are 1. Defining "emergency" for patient referral to a specialist at a hospital by means of a Fuzzy rule-based system, and 2. A web based patient referral system for GPs. This is particularly suitable for a student who is taking Fuzzy Logic module.
5.      A web based real-time medical signal/image (e.g. ECG) processing and monitoring
6.   Biometric Security for Web and Computer Networks: Voice, Face, Finger Print, Iris
7.    A voice activated web system (e.g. for disabled people)
8.      A web-cam for patient monitoring
9.      A fuzzy logic based model for genomic data (genetic sequence) analysis
10.      Sensitivity analysis of tuneable parameters of a neuro-fuzzy system
11.      Classification of Doppler ultrasound waveforms by means of neural networks and fuzzy logic
12. A user interface for performing classification algorithms using MATLAB toolboxes.
13. A web (cam) based home security system
14. An ANFIS multi-expert system design
